Ledger's Four Last Songs
Internationally acclaimed soprano Sara Macliver sings Strauss’s iconic song cycle Four Last Songs reimagined in an intimate arrangement for thirteen instruments by celebrated composer James Ledger.
Showcasing the cream of WA’s young artists from the Conservatorium of Music, performing alongside their mentors, this concert will feature a program of works that you know and love, delightfully reimagined for more intimate ensembles.
Originally composed for full symphony orchestra, Richard Strauss’s deeply moving meditations on his life and love Four Last Songs has been reimaged by ARIA award-winning composer James Ledger into an arrangement for thirteen instruments, that further highlights the glorious voice of internationally acclaimed soprano Sara Macliver.
Macliver will sing Gershwin and Porter songs, also reimagined by Ledger and accompanied by UWA honours student Andy Li, before celebrated violinist Shaun Lee-Chen performs Robert Schumann’s arrangement of accompanied Bach, alongside award-winning UWA piano student Jude Holland.
