In a rented chalet in the French Alps, newly-wed Daniel Corban has reported to the local police that his wife Elizabeth is missing.
A priest arrives and tells him that he has found Madame Corban alive and well. He brings the woman in, but a stunned Daniel is adamant that she is not his wife.
Several witnesses arrive and identify her as Madame Corban, and Daniel begins to feel that he is losing his grip on reality.
