Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus presents Gioachino Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle in its original, intimate scoring for choir, soloists, two pianos and harmonium directed by Aldis Sils.Rossini composed the sacred masterpiece in 1863, 34 years after retiring from comic opera, bringing his operatic brilliance to the sacred realm. The reduced instrumentation creates a distinctive, lush sound that complements the choral voices in an unexpected way, blending operatic richness with a chamber-like intimacy.
