A stunning adaptation of Shakespeare’s final play, The Tempest.
Prospera uses magic to conjure a storm and torment the survivors of a shipwreck, including the King of Naples and Prospera's treacherous brother, Antonio. Prospera's slave, Caliban, plots to rid himself of his master, but is thwarted by Prospera's spirit-servant Ariel. This poetic and provocative retelling features original songs and live music.

Matilda follows Matilda Wormwood, a bright girl who immerses herself in books. Matilda is discarded and belittled by her parents—her father insists on calling her a boy and harps on her “stupidity” for preferring reading to watching the telly—and her hostile headmistress Miss Trunchbull. With an ever-growing imagination and with a caring protector in her teacher Miss Honey, Matilda dreams of a better life, daring to take a stand against unjust forces and to grasp her destiny in her own hands.

The concert showcases the musical talents of Newman College’s Year 7 students, many of whom have only studied their instrument for a year. The evening will consist of performances in a range of musical styles by the Year 7 Rock band, choir, Concert band and selected soloists and small groups. This is a free event.

The showcase will feature solo and groups performances by the vocal and strings students from Lavalla campus. Ensembles performing at this event include Lavalla Choir, the Year 3 String Ensemble, Scherzando Strings and Vivace Strings as well as a guest performance by the Marcellin Chamber String Ensemble. This is a free event.
