Earth Canvas

Earth Canvas is a project linking artists with Regenerative Farmers to create a better future.6 Artists and 6 Regenerative farmers will work together and produce a body of artwork to be displayed at the November 2019 Open Days on farms on the SW slopes between the Murray and Murrumbidgee Rivers. Each day will be unique and with guest speakers, farmer and artist talk, interactive activities for all age groups. Healthy locally produced food included and prepared by local chefs.

An afternoon at Yabtree West on the Murrumbidgee River East of Wagga Wagga. Yabtree West is working beef cattle property. Hear from farmers Rebecca Gorman and neighbouring Regenerative farmer Nick Austin how they manage regenerative & conservation of the land while running productive farming businesses. You will also hear Recipient artists of the 2024 Earth Canvas & Wagga Wagga Art Gallery Residency. Artists in residence Rochelle Summerfield, Tracey Pateman and Will Rodgers will reflect on their two-week residency on Yabtree West and Mundarlo farms followed by a two-week studio residency at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery. This collaboration between Earth Canvas and Wagga Wagga Art Gallery links Regenerative farmers and artists. The event will involve walking, please wear appropriate footwear

Joe Frost Artist Workshop for Practicing artists

An opportunity to work with Joe Frost. Joe is lecturer at National Art School Sydney, practicing painter and freelance writes for art magazines. This one day, intensive workshop is an opportunity to take stock of your practice and enhance your visual expression on many levels. Morning session Joe will lead a group review to identify key visual & creative issues in each participant’s work. The emphasis will be on recognising the potential and identifying the problems in the work. The afternoon session students will commence a new work (or to re-work) in light of the review, supported by focussed, one-on-one discussion with Joe. You will be invited to re-consider any habitual assumptions that are blocking your practice and given practical advice on how to begin subtly refining or thoroughly re-inventing your approach to form, materials and imagery.

Hear from farmers Pete and Bundle Lawson as they step you through their experience of regenerative farming, an emerging sustainable practice with an emphasis on returning farmlands to good health. You will also hear RAD x Earth Canvas artist in residence Lyndall Phelps reflect on her two-week residency on Trewalla farm followed by a two-week studio residency at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery. Earth Canvas Book. A journey of the past 3 years of introducing some of Australia's leading Landscape artists and Regenerative Farmers. The artist interpreted their experience of being on Regenerative farms. The Earth Canvas project was inspired by a concern that people have lost contact with food production and the farmed landscape. Artist captured the experience and concerns regenerative farmers have about the state of the environment. The 68 page hard cover full colour A4 coffee table book tells the story of open days on farms, travelling exhibition & artist workshops. Images of some of the 79 artworks in the travelling exhibition & photographs of landscapes on the farms. Artist Alexander Boynes has produced artworks and seeks to express how the Watsons care and share with the environment in the face of the Climate Emergency. And how all Australians can respect and acknowledge this country’s 65,000 years of First Nation’s history, while the Watson family continuing to live and make an income from the land. 9.30 am starts at the National Museum of Aus, Lawson Cres, Canberra for artist talk around the exhibition followed by bus or drive to Millpost.
