In their own image: Greek Australians
Join socio-cultural historian Leonard Janiszewski and documentary photographer Effy Alexakis to learn the fascinating story of Australia’s Greek presence over the last 200 years. From the earliest pardoned convicts and free settlers to the influx of the 1850s gold rush and mass migration following World War II, together with the more recent arrivals as a result of the Greek economic crisis.
They will explore why Australian shores beckoned - and continue to beckon - for the Hellenic men and women.
An event for the 2024 Australian Heritage Festival.
