Michael Leslie - Late Works II Beethoven Diabelli Variations
Michael returns to perform Beethoven's colossal set of 33 variations on a waltz composed by Anton Diabelli. Written between 1819 and 1823, this work is often considered to be one of the greatest sets of variations for keyboard along with J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations.
This is Michael's last concert in Melbourne before he heads back to Munich.
A note from Michael:
„We shall not cease from exploration,
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.“
Beethoven returns us, in the final minuet, to our beginning, now seen afresh and transfigured „by that refining fire, Where you must move in measure like a dancer.“
T. S. Eliot, Four Quartets
