Transported for Life: a lottery?
This seminar/webinar will focus on those convicts considered some of the worst to arrive in Van Diemen’s Land: the 780 women who were convicted to transportation for life. Presentations will examine the sentencing process, the origins of the ‘lifers’, their convict experience and the lives that they built post-sentence.
A keynote address will focus on the variable processes and inconsistencies of sentencing.
Archaeologist Jennifer Jones-Travers will tell us about the recent Anglesea Barracks amazing find.
Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania, will launch the latest book from Convict Women's Press:
'Convict Lives: Young girls transported to Van Diemen's Land'
