'Springtime In Paris 1925'
The Noosa Heads Jazz Club proudly presents ‘Springtime In Paris 1925’
Tunes made famous in France by the celebrated clarinet and saxophone player Sidney Bechet will be featured.
The magic that was Sidney Bechet will cast its spell at the Majestic Theatre on Thursday 27th April 2023.
Bechet, Sidney soprano sax / clarinet. Born: St Antoine Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 14th May 1897. Died: Paris, France, 14th May 1959. Bechet’s autobiography “Treat It Gentle” was first published in 1960. As a child, Bechet sat in on clarinet with Freddie Keppard. “Who’s Who of Jazz. Storyville to Swing Street”. John Chilton 1979 p26.
This is a very special concert inspired by tunes like ‘Petite Fleur’, ‘Promenade aux Champs Elysees’, ’Si Tu Vois Ma Mere’ (the theme from the movie hit ‘Midnight in Paris’), made famous in France by Sidney Bechet. Keep your fingers crossed as we might hear some of them.
You are in for another cheeky diet of fascinating rhythms, beautiful harmonics, and entertaining repartee. Simply an afternoon of sublime music with two of Australia’s leading reeds players.
Paul Furniss has toured extensively overseas in the USA, Europe, UK, New Zealand and Japan and is one of Australia’s top jazz musicians playing clarinet, flute, and soprano, alto and tenor saxophones. He has been a member of some of Australia’s leading jazz bands, including Graeme Bell’s All Stars, Tom Baker’s San Francisco Jazz Band and Geoff Bull's Olympia Jazz Band, and a regular performer at Noosa’s festival of jazz, the Noosa Jazz Party.
Paul Williams is generally regarded as one of the most complete and versatile reeds jazz players in Australia; a consummate professional on both tenor saxophone and clarinet. He commenced playing reeds at age 11 in England and turned professional at 16. He has performed for Cilla Black, Al Martino, Gene Pitney, and worked with the Nelson Riddle orchestra backing Linda Ronstadt. Paul has played, with leading Australian jazz artists such as Tom Baker, James Morrison, Judy Bailey, Graeme Bell, Ed Wilson and Bob Barnard.
These two likely lads are accompanied by Dave Burrows (guitar), Peter Freeman (string bass) John Reeves (piano & accordion) and Rod Andrew (drums).
This Concert should not be missed.
