Is That a Cordyline Among the Callistemons? A Garden Walk
About
The Canberra suburb of Hackett was developed from the mid-1960s, with many houses built for the 'indoor-outdoor living' that had become a feature of Mid-Century Modern house and garden design since the 1950s.This walk around Hackett will view from the street Mid-Century Modern style gardens, some of them beautifully maintained original gardens and others newly planted.
We will also see how this garden style, transplanted from southern California, intersected with the emergence of the Australian Bush Garden in a number of well grown native gardens and some interesting blended gardens.
Total walk distance is approximately 2 km, on footpaths and flat grass verges, with plenty of shade - no obstacle courses.
We will finish with light refreshments. The walk back to the carpark takes just five minutes.
