Exploring Psychological Health: Insights from Buddhism
About
What defines ‘psychological health’? How we answer this question influences our understanding of what psychotherapy helps with and towards, as well as how it does that. Buddhism offers a total view of humanity, inclusive of our ‘ordinary’ painful experiences and of the ‘enlightened’ experience. Buddhist practices provide an insight and can augment, if not challenge, our ideas of what psychological healthiness might mean.Kathleen Gregory is a counselling psychologist and academic; she holds an MA and PhD in comparative philosophy. She has been a Buddhist practitioner in the Tibetan tradition for nearly 30 years. She was authorised by Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX, to teach Buddhism and psychotherapy. She coordinated the Master of Counselling program at La Trobe University and at the Graduate School of Counselling and Psychology at Naropa University in Colorado. She served as Dean of the School for 2 years. She currently teaches at RMIT University and has a private practice.
