Ballarat Steam Weekend - 9th - 12th June 2023 (SOLD OUT)
- Steamrail Victoria invites you to ride our historical steam shuttles at Ballarat featuring two of our heritage steam locomotives. Alternatively travel on a one-way transfer from Newport to Ballarat via Gheringhap or a one-way transfer from Ballarat to Southern Cross via Bacchus Marsh.
Ballarat Shuttles - Join us for our annual Ballarat Shuttles on Saturday 10th, Sunday 11th and Monday 12th June 2023. Wave to the Ballarat locals and the lineside photographers while we take you back in time aboard The Vintage Train. Our shuttle trips run 18km to the tiny country town of Lal Lal. Stopping just out of town, the train will then return you to Ballarat Station, passing high speed V/Line trains on the approach to Ballarat.
Newport to Ballarat Transfer - On Friday 9th June 2023, board our double-headed steam hauled transfer train for the journey from Newport to Ballarat via Gheringhap. Travel via the freight only line from Geelong to Ballarat, featuring the 440 metre Moorabool Viaduct, historic bluestone stations and bridges and changing landscapes from the golden plains to the heavily forested sections near Lal Lal. A mid afternoon arrival allows passengers to return to Melbourne on one of many V/Line train services from Ballarat Railway Station.
- Ballarat to Southern Cross Transfer - On Monday 12th June 2023, board our transfer train for the journey to Melbourne. Our double-headed steam locomotives will storm Warrenheip Bank and head towards Melbourne via 'The Straight' - Ballarat's second railway connection via Bacchus Marsh & Melton. Enjoy panoramic views as we descend the famous Ingliston Bank from Werribee Gorge into Bacchus Marsh. The train will set down at Footscray and Southern Cross Station. Make use of regular V/Line train services between Ballarat and Southern Cross to connect with our one way steam hauled transfer train.
