French Botanising in Australia in the 18th & 19th Centuries
About
From the 18th Century France sought to become a colonial power to rival Britain in the scientific as well as the military sphere. In this richly illustrated talk Max Bourke AM will look at the work of French botanists / gardeners and their interactions with British scientists to document and describe the astonishing 'new' plant life of Australia. Despite rolling wars and revolution this work went on with only minor interruptions into the 19th Century.Refreshments will be provided after the talk.
