The Lamm Jewish Library team is proud to announce a new collaboration with Christopher Latham OAM, the Australian War Memorial’s first musical artist-in-residence. He is creating seven large war memorials, working closely with renowned composers like Elena Kats-Chernin AO and ARIA award-winning didgeridoo player William Barton.

Join us for an intimate lecture-concert honouring the memory and works made by Jewish composers and artists imprisoned at Terezin.

The Lamm Jewish Library is proud to host the first in a series of special musical events entitled the Music of Memory. This series will culminate with the Holocaust Memorial with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in October 2024.

THE MUSICIANS AND ARTISTS OF TEREZIN:

The Nazis brought artistic talent to Terezin, such as the composers Pavel Haas, Gideon Klein, Hans Krasa, Viktor Ullmann and Ilse Weber, and artists like Bedrich Fritta, Otto Ungar, Felix Bloch, Malva Shalek and Friedl Dicker-Brandeis - all of whom were later killed in Auschwitz and other camps. This evening of music and images will focus on their life stories and the music and art they created in Terezin.  

ABOUT CHRISTOPHER LATHAM OAM:

Christopher Latham OAM, formerly an ACO violinist and festival director, is the Australian War Memorial’s first musical artist-in-residence. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate by the University of Canberra, the order of Arts and Letters by France and the Medal of the Order of Australia for his work on music and war. He is making the Holocaust Memorial to mark 80 years since the liberation of the death camps and the murder of the musicians and artists in Terezin. All his work is made to lighten the burden of trauma, and to help those affected, to heal.
