Glorious Majesty! Music from 500 yrs of English Coronations
Featuring the combined choirs of Box Hill Chorale and Melbourne University Choral Society, accompanied by Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Brass, and one of Australia's finest organists, this concert will celebrate a magnificent musical tradition of music performed at English coronations spanning 500 years. From spectacular and iconic works such as Handel’s "Zadok the Priest" and Parry’s "I was Glad", the concert will also include a number of smaller more intimate works, all of which have featured at coronation ceremonies. From anthems, motets, stately hymns and grand marches these works will include such gems as Vaughan Williams’ "The Old 100th" and "O taste and see", Holst’s "I Vow to Thee my Country", Clarke’s "The Prince of Denmark’s March", Elgar’s majestic "Imperial March" and more! The concert will be performed in the magnificent setting of the historic All Saints Anglican Church, East St Kilda, founded in 1858.
