Boilermaker Duo
In 2020, long-time colleagues Ben Dix and Dan McKay (best known for their work within the Melbourne Guitar Quartet) joined forces as Australia’s newest guitar duo.
For decades Ben and Dan have performed and broadcast widely throughout Australia for some of the country’s leading concert halls, chamber music presenters, guitar festivals and societies. They are thrilled to bring an exciting program of works from Europe to Australia, from the baroque to the modern. Major works by JS Bach and Keith Jarrett sit alongside music by Australian and South American composers.
The duo performs Ulrich Stracke’s transcription of Bach/Busoni’s Chaconne, breathing new life into this monumental and virtuosic work. They also explore the delicate beauty of Keith Jarrett’s classic improvised work from Köln in 1975, which Ben recently arranged for them. The duo are also thrilled to present the first performances of 'Arrival Gates', written for them by much loved Australian composer Robert Davidson.
