Rich Literature-Based EAL/D Pedagogy
About
Literature-based pedagogy is a proven and effective approach for EAL/D students to learn English additional language/dialect knowledge and skills, and cross-cultural understandings of the additional language. Using a rich literature-based approach allows EAL/D learners access to the socio-cultural knowledge of Standard Australian English and provides them with the knowledge and skills they need to use English communicatively and academically. Comprehension of and about another culture in and through that culture’s language is the ultimate goal of literature-based pedagogy in EAL/D teaching. In this session, Fran Murray will present aspects of rich literature-based EAL/D pedagogy that reflect national and international research in learning an additional language. Fran will provide some examples of literature-based language learning activities with connections to the Australian Curriculum and EAL/D assessment documents.
