Reciprocal Multilingual Learning in Secondary Classrooms
About
Reciprocal Multilingual Learning is a model of teaching developed from research into how multilingual students use their linguistic repertoires in their lives and learning. In this session, Dr Mei French will present some principles and an approach to planning that teachers can use to engage students' multilingual resources in EAL/D classrooms. Dr French will provide examples to show how these approaches work in practical ways, and with connection to Australian Curriculum and SACE. Examples are drawn from middle school and senior secondary classrooms, but the approach can be adapted to other contexts.Dr Mei French is an educational linguist who researches and teaches in multilingual education with Education Futures at the University of South Australia. Mei is an experienced teacher and teacher educator in EAL/D and Languages. She has developed curriculum, resources and teacher professional learning around multilingual pedagogies for schools
