Kegelstatt Ensemble: Reflection and Inflection
About
Adelaide’s Kegelstatt Ensemble presents a special concert weaving music through the theme of the Barossa Valley’s German heritage and language. The centrepiece of the afternoon is a new commissioned work by Australian composer Robert Davidson, for live instruments and audio track, built on the rhythm and melodic contours of the unique and endangered language branch of Barossa German. Hear this alongside works by Mozart, Brahms and Hindemith which map significant moments in the history of German settlement in the area, including the ensemble’s signature tune, the “Kegelstatt” trio, and an improvisation on the Hill & Son Grand Organ by guest artist, Josh Van Konkelenberg, inspired by Lutheran hymn tunes.
You will also hear words from the composer, the musicians, and a linguist versed in the history of Barossa German, and have the opportunity to mingle with them over light refreshments following the concert.
