Key Word Sign Basic Workshop Charlestown
About
Key Word Sign (KWS) is the use of signs and natural gestures to support communication and language development of children and adults with communication difficulties. KWS is a type of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC). You can use KWS with other forms of AAC such as communication boards and books. This Key Word Sign Basic Workshop is an introductory course teaching the principles of KWS and gesture, who it can be used with and how it can be used alongside other ways of communicating. You will understand how KWS is different to Auslan, the language of the Deaf Community in Australia.
In the practical component of the course you will learn up to 80 new signs along with common natural gestures and practice these in fun, interactive activities. You will leave the workshop with a plan of the next steps you can take to further your learning.
This workshop includes a "Getting Started with Key Word Sign" book, resources, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
