L. v. BEETHOVEN Violin Sonata No. 9 in A Major, Op. 47 "Kreutzer"
Beethoven's famous Kreutzer sonata is considered to be one of the most complex and challenging works for violin and piano. Alongside this masterpiece, is one of the performers' work, Janáček's dramatic violin sonata. "...I could just about hear sound of the steel clashing in my troubled head..." wrote Janáček of the work, which he wrote in 1914, in a Europe in turmoil at the start of World War I. The program opens with one of Australia's most precious works for this combination: Margaret Sutherland's Nocturne.
Latvian violinist Sophia Kirsanova enjoys an international career having performed throughout Europe and Australia.
Pianist Berta Brozgul is a graduate of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria with highest honours, she is the recipient of many prizes in Australia.
