From Imbros Over the Sea
About
Carefully curated by historian Jim Claven for the Imvrians’ Society of Melbourne, this photographic exhibition commemorates the role of the Northern Aegean Island of Imbros (Imvros) in the Gallipoli campaign and in so doing recognizes its role at the birth of Australia’s Anzac story.Imbros’ role in the Gallipoli campaign and its connection to Australia through that campaign is told through the photographs from the time, from archives in Australia and the United Kingdom, placed in historical context and further illustrated by photographs from today. Viewed together, the organizers hope that this exhibition will vividly bring to life this important era in Imbros’ and Australia’s history, a connection that should not be forgotten.
