Assessing mental state at time of offence for legal reports
About
The law recognises that a person's mental state when they commit an offence may render them not responsible for the offence or may be a mitigating factor at sentencing. Experts are asked to provide opinions in such cases in the form of reports and oral evidence. This day will give participants a detailed overview of the relevant legal provisions in Australia, particularly: the defence of mental impairment, automatism, diminished responsibility and sentencing considerations. This workshop is designed for professionals/practitioners working with mental health or justice involved people. Facilitator: Dr Rajan Darjee, Adjunct Associate Professor and Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist
