Newcastle Library is the custodian of a magnificent series of natural history books generally known as Gould’s Birds. Sue Ryan, Co-ordinator Local History at Newcastle Library reveals the illustrated volumes, known for their artistic and scientific merit. Of particular interest are illustrations of local birds, documented in the 1840s by John and Elizabeth Gould when they visited Newcastle.
