Australia’s National Electricity Market
In the second of a series of presentations on Energy Transition, David Osmond will report on Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM) and its transition from dependence on high emission fossil energy generation to low emission renewable energy generation. His presentation will include details of his work since 2021 simulating a future NEM with 100% renewable energy and storage.
David Osmond is a wind engineer with Windlab since 2003. He has played a key role in the development of over 1 gigawatt of wind generation in Australia, South Africa & Canada, as well as a first-of-a-kind wind, solar & battery project in Queensland. He holds degrees in Theoretical Physics and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, and has assisted the development and delivery of a course on wind energy for the ANU. He has published articles in Reneweconomy and Cosmos Magazine, and was a contributor to “Transitioning to a Prosperous, Resilient and Carbon-Free Economy: A Guide for Decision-Makers” (Cambridge University
