 The 2024 Ballarat Dragon Boat Festival Carnival is organized and hosted by the Chinese Professionals Club of Australia (CPCA), with the support from the Chinese Australian Cultural Society Ballarat (CACSB) acting as the co-host. This event is open to the public. With its stated aim of enhancing cultural diversity and promoting cross-cultural understanding, this event is also supported by the Victorian State Government through the Multicultural Festivals and Events Program. 
2024年巴拉瑞特龙舟节嘉年华由澳洲华人专业人士俱乐部（CPCA）主办，澳洲巴拉瑞特澳中文化协会（CACSB）协办。此活动得到维多利亚州政府多元文化节庆活动计划的支持，对公众开放，旨在促进文化多样性和相互理解。
 

The Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese celebration held on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, has roots dating back over 2500 years in China. On this day, nearby village clans form teams to compete on the dragon boat race, and families come together to enjoy a picnic while watching the competition on the water. Zongzi, a kind of sticky rice dumplings wrapped in green bamboo leaves, is the favourite food of this occasion.  Children especially look forward to the colourful painted eggs on this day. The painted eggs are put into a small woven bag and hung around a child’s neck, and are said to bring peace and protection for the child. Bunches of wormwood grass are also often placed near the house entrance doors, to chase away vermin and evil spirits. Through these activities, the festival promotes harmony between humanity and nature, cooperation between the clans, fosters a healthy sense of competition and sportsmanship, encourages creativity, and instills a strong sense of cultural identity. Coincidently, 2024 also marks the Year of the Dragon. Hence this year is quite a fitting time for a dragon boat race.
端午节是中国的传统节日，起源于2500多年前的中国大陆，每年农历五月初五举行。这一天，附近村庄的族群组成队伍，在龙舟比赛中展开竞赛，家人们则聚在一起，在水边观赏比赛的同时享用野餐。粽子是这个节日的特别美食，它是用糯米裹在绿色竹叶里制成的。孩子们尤其期待这一天的彩绘鸡蛋，这些彩绘鸡蛋被放进小编织袋里挂在孩子的脖子上，据说能给孩子带来平安和保护。此外，人们还常常在家门口放上一束艾草，以驱赶害虫和驱除邪气。这个节日也促进人与自然的和谐，族群间的合作，培养健康的竞争精神和体育精神，鼓励创造力，并鼓励创造力，提倡文化认同感。巧合的是，2024年正是龙年。因此，这一年是举办龙舟比赛最合适的时机。

The event’s program features rich cultural experiences including dragon boat paddling, Ansai waist drum performances, various cultural programs, and Tai Chi demonstrations. Additionally, calligraphy enthusiasts from CPCA will be on-site to write couplets, spring couplets, and the character '福' symbolizing happiness and good fortune for the audience free of charge. You can also pick up a pen and learn to write Chinese characters. Furthermore, we have arranged Chinese-style palace fan painting for the children who come to watch the calligraphy. They can choose their favorite patterns, trace them onto the palace fan, and take them home as souvenirs. There will also be adorable Chinese paper-cut dragons on display and for sale. 
活动内容包括划龙舟体验、安塞腰鼓演出、文艺节目、太极表演，还有CPCA书法爱好者现场为观众免费书写对联、春联、大福字。你也可以提笔学习书写中国字。 此外，我们为前来观看的小朋友安排具有中国特色的宫扇绘画。他们可以挑选自己喜欢的图案，在宫扇上将图案临摹下来，并带回家去珍藏。届时还有招人喜爱的中国剪纸小龙展出并出售。

On the day, we will also provide complimentary Sausage Sizzles and traditional zongzi-shaped lollies.
