Flinders Speaker Series with Michelle Mitchell
About
'The Surprising Science Behind Confident Kids'
Confidence is that elusive quality that we wished that our kids had. Out of 1600 parents who recently completed Michelle’s parenting survey, 100% identified low self-esteem as one of their most pressing concerns.
All noticed that their kids were pulling back rather than pushing forward – limiting or adapting themselves in fear of being laughed at, criticised or judged. In this presentation Michelle will talk about the science and practise of building sturdy self-esteem, and what to do when it wobbles.
We will explore the role of social comparison and feedback and discover why our own journey is the most powerful narrative in their lives.
Supported by the Flinders P&F, the Flinders Speaker Series is a free community event for parents and carers on the Sunshine Coast.
The event is for parents of children across the primary and secondary schools.
In 2000, Michelle established a charity, Youth Excel, which grew over 20 years to become the Youth Excel Centre, an innovative and big-hearted multi-disciplinary clinic offering psychology, counselling and mentoring for children and teenagers.
Her insights are drawn from the privilege she has had of working with many hundreds of young people and their families as a mentor.
