NAIDOC Week: In-Conversation with Noongar Artists & Curators
In celebration of NAIDOC Week, join Edith Cowan University for an In-Conversation with Noongar Artists.
This informal and interactive discussion will talk to, and celebrate artwork of past, present, and emerging First Nations artists. The conversation will be centred around the exhibition: Boola Moorditj Boordiya (Many Strong Leaders), held at Gallery25, ECU Mount Lawley.
The exhibition has been curated by Zali Morgan, Whadjuk, Ballardong and Wilman Noongar woman; multidisciplinary artist and writer, who will faciltiate the event. She will be joined in-conversation with fellow Noongar artists: Peter Farmer Senior, Amanda Bell, Brett Nannup and Emily Rose.
Zali has a deep passion for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and artists, particularly Noongar art and artists. She has worked closely with private and institutional collections, with a keen interest in decolonising practices. Zali has an extensive knowledge of South-western Australian artists whilst having an open mind and interest in expanding her understanding and current practice.
Drawing from the ECU Collection, the exhibition Boola Moorditj Boordiya (Many Strong Leaders), honours Noongar ancestors, elders and leaders who have been pivotal in shaping Noongar art into what it is today.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the history, resilience, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year's National NAIDOC theme Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud celebrates the unyielding spirit of First Nations communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that continue to be silenced.
It calls for a reclamation of narratives, a support of First Nations representation and an unwavering commitment to justice and equity.
Edith Cowan University is proud to celebrate this year’s theme, and hope you can join us at this event. *Logo image credit: 2024 National NAIDOC logo
