About
Established in 2022 by Melbourne-based Latvian violinist Sophia Kirsanova, Melbourne Strings comprises top classical string players from Melbourne, including leading professional players and emerging artists. Their performances are always a breath of fresh air; a wild ride from ethereal heights to crunchy grittiness; punctuated by precision, rigour and expressiveness.Melbourne Strings have been recipients of the City of Melbourne Art Grant and have performed at the Hanson Dyer Hall, New Music Studio series at the Conservatorium of Music, Brunswick Music Festival and regional Victoria.
This program includes - arrangements from Johann Sebastian Bach's 15 inventions BWV 772 - 786 (violin and cello), selected variations from his 'Goldberg' Variations BWV 988) arranged for string quartet by Dana Anka ( Hamburg), 'Castillo Interior' for violin and cello (2013) by Pēteris Vasks and Caroline Shaw’s Entr'acte (2011) for string quartet
