Brave Talks is a platform that privileges the wisdom of lived experience. A mental health advocacy initiative created in partnership with JCA The Choice Foundation and Jewish Care, Brave Talks provides a trauma-informed safe space to deepen our understanding and acknowledgement of mental health challenges. By hearing one another and healing through our human connection; we can continue to challenge stigma, break cycles of shame, enable proactive help-seeking and ultimately support the well-being of our community.

Introducing our Speakers
Mor Lacob
Just 24 hours after Mor's first child was born, he was diagnosed with a rare and dangerous heart condition, requiring life-saving open-heart surgery at just 6 days old. This intense and emotional experience profoundly shaped Mor's early days of motherhood, leaving her to navigate deep fears, anxiety, and a difficult struggle to bond with her baby. After a long journey of healing, reflection, and learning, Mor will share her powerful story and the valuable lessons that taught her we are ultimately responsible for shaping and owning our own narrative.
Jessica Abelsohn
At the age of 26, Jessica’s mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Despite taking on a carer role for her mother, planning a wedding around her mother’s terminal diagnosis, and coming to terms with the lifetime of grief she would face, Jessica vowed that her mother’s passing would not be in vain. Instead, it set her and her family on a path to change the pancreatic cancer landscape for others impacted.

Ricky KremerWhen Ricky Kremer was born, a lack of oxygen to the brain at birth caused his Cerebral Palsy, a lifelong disability. Growing up in a loving family, Ricky was never made to feel different. It was navigating adolescence when things started to become more challenging. Ricky knows the complexities that come with spaces that aren’t inclusive. Knows what it’s like to not feel heard. It has been these experiences that have propelled him to work actively in the disability space, supporting inclusion and uplifting others facing similar hurdles.

Five years ago, Mark Steiner was in the depths of his experience with anorexia nervosa. An illness that completely took over his mind and body. Mark's journey to recovery proves that a series of small steps, the right source of motivation, and caring support can turn life's greatest challenges into its greatest achievements.
