National Trust of Australia (ACT) 2024 Annual General Meeting will be followed by speaker, Alastair Greig.Alastair Greig’s most recent book 'The Road to Batemans Bay: Speculating on the South Coast During the 1840s Depression' was shortlisted for the 2024 NSW Premier’ Community and Regional History Award. Alastair is an emeritus fellow in sociology at ANU and his earlier publications include The Australian Way of Life and The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of.
While his latest book focuses on Batemans Bay, Broulee and Jervis Bay, his talk will explore why developments on the Limestone Plains and the Monaro were central to these speculative township ventures in the early 1840s.
