ZZ‘Commentary’ a play reading by Ash Flanders
About
A rehearsed reading of a new play, Commentary, by the Melbourne Athenaeum’s 2024 playwright-in-residence Ash Flanders, directed by Matthew Lutton. When Nick, a filmmaker-turned-film-lecturer, is offered the chance to record a director's commentary of his one successful film for MIFF he’s pulled in countless directions. Is this a comeback or certain death? A chance to reframe and redress the past? And what exactly is he supporting by allowing the film to be shown again?
Ash Flanders is a multi-award winning playwright and performer. In 2006, he and Declan Greene formed theatre company Sisters Grimm. As a solo writer/performer Ash created Meme Girls (Malthouse), Special Victim (Feast Festival), Playing to Win (Arts Centre Melbourne) and Ash Flanders is NOTHING, all directed by Stephen Nicolazzo. Ash also wrote SS Metaphor and This Is Living for Malthouse Theatre.
