AWOL (Canada)
Cyril doesn’t like old people, which is a shame because he is one. When he learns his estranged granddaughter, Lily, has her big break with her thrash metal band, Abscess, he and his octogenarian friend Neville are determined to show up and support her.
AWOL makes it's Australian premiere in January. Creator Rob Gee was inspired to write the show by a news item from Germany: “It turned out to be apocryphal, but I loved the idea. I wanted to write a feel-good adventure caper with a positive message about aging. It’s also a love letter to metalheads, who I’ve always found to be quite a friendly demographic.”
Jon Paterson (How I Met My Mother - “Humorous, heartfelt and moving” Orlando Sentinel) has worked in theatre for thirty years and performed at every major fringe festival in North America.
Jon will be joined by Perth's Shane Adamczak joins the cast as Neville. His most recent work, Vehicle, co-created with Sam Longley, took out the WA Theatre/Performance and Martin Sims Awards at the 2023 Fringe World Festival.
