Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (Day of AI Australia workshop special)

Day of AI Australia and the ECU School of Science are proud to offer this Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) workshop to secondary students (years 5-10) and teachers (no prior knowledge required).

You will get hands-on with different AI tools and explore what AI is, how it works, think about some of the ethical considerations of AI technology and uncover how AI is being used in different industries (not just tech!). To wrap up the day you'll take everything you've learned and apply it to tackling a real world problem! 

This workshop is being offered as a collaborative initiative between Day in AI Australia and the ECU School of Science. Please note that this workshop is a repeat of the Sept 2024 offering.

•    10:00am: break
•    10:30am:  Workshop 2 - How do Machines Learn?
•    11:15am: Workshop 3 - How do Machines Create Things?
•    12:00pm: lunch
•    12:30pm: Workshop 4 - Ethics of AI
•    1:15pm: Workshop 5 - AI in Industries and Careers

•    2:00pm: Workshop 6 - Applying what you've learned to a real world problem
•    3:00pm: Close

Workshops take place in ECU’s computer labs due to software requirements - computers are provided.

Please use Visitor parking in Carpark 14. The entrance is via Deakin off Lakeside Drive. See Google Maps for directions. If you are staying for longer than a drop off then please adhere to parking signs.

Release from our care:

Please inform us if your child is to be released from our care at close of the event and a parent/guardian will not be present to collect them.

Please indicate Parent/Guardian consent for student photographs to be taken and used by ECU and A Day of AI Australia. Further details under Terms.

As the parent/guardian, by enrolling your child you understand that your child will be participating in online activities, and will adhere to the rules and instructions of ECU staff leading the program. All staff and Ambassadors running the programs hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC).

We may take photos at any time during the event for news articles, social media, and promotion of science events at ECU in the future. Please make sure you check the box to indicate if you do not want your child to be photographed (so that we know) and tell your child (so that they know) that they are not to be included in any photos. Selecting that a student is permitted to be photographed or a student choosing to stand in a photo assumes agreement to the use of their image for the above purposes.

The data you submit when registering will be sent to, stored and used by the form owner, Edith Cowan University.
