This comprehensive survey, completed by students and staff at 24 institutions, provides a critical view of the challenges faced by Jewish members of the academic community.

In this event, Markus will delve into the survey’s notable findings, including detailed responses to open-ended questions where participants shared their most impactful experiences of antisemitism and suggested actions universities should take to address it. The survey also covered topics such as safety perceptions, observed behaviours, and reactions from non-Jewish colleagues, offering a nuanced picture of the university climate.

Presented to both the Australian Senate and the University of Sydney inquiry, these findings have sparked important discussions on the need for a commission of inquiry. Andrew Markus
Emeritus Professor Andrew Markus is an accomplished historian and academic, specialising in Australian immigration history.  For a number of years he taught the history of the modern Middle East at Monash University.
