About
Tomoko is a Japanese artist based between Sydney and the Central Coast.Sumi-e in Japanese means “ink” and e means “painting”.
Sumi-e uses various techniques of gradation, shading, bleeding, and blurring.
Using different brush techniques, and different mixtures of water and ink, you
can create gorgeous mountain scenery, forest vistas, and elegant bamboo
stand.
This workshop will teach foundational knowledge of Sumi-e painting, various
kinds of brush techniques with Asian brushes and unique calligraphy ink
effects on different kinds of washi papers. After learning these approaches,
students will explore painting bamboo, mountain landscapes and cherry
blossoms.
All materials will be provided. No knowledge of Sumi-e (or any
painting skill) is required. Please bring a light lunch.
