A nocturne is a piece of music written as an ode to the stillness, shadows, and tenderness of night, informed by the world and environment of its time (~18th century).
While the night remains a constant, the world has changed exponentially.
We live in a time of constants, 24/7 everything — where the night holds everything but the sun. It is a space where rest and restlessness coexist.
This month, the ensemble is invited to reimagine the nocturne, inquiring into how romance unfolds after dark in our modern world.
This Resonant Bodies invites musicians to reshape the nocturne through the lens of our contemporary life.
