2025 Gary Morgan Oration - Dr Alisa Bunbury (SOLD OUT)

About
Rare Books Melbourne and the Melbourne Athenaeum Library are pleased to announce that the 2025 Gary Morgan oration will be presented by Dr Alisa Bunbury, who will present an oration entitled:The Birrarung and Melbourne, art and images.
Melbourne was established at the small waterfall that separated freshwater from salt, an important cultural site and crossing point for members of the Kulin nation. The Birrarung (Yarra) river immediately became a feature in depictions of the developing city. This talk will explore changing visual representations of, and attitudes towards, the river in Melbourne's first century.
Alisa Bunbury has been Senior Curator, Grimwade Collection at the Ian Potter Museum of Art, University of Melbourne since 2017. Prior to this, she was Curator of Prints and Drawings at the National Gallery of Victoria and the Art Gallery of South Australia. She has researched and curated exhibitions on numerous topics, with a specialisation in Australian colonial art.
