Start your day with a ride on the 1937 heritage train from Horsham.
The train departs Horsham Railway Station at 10am, Dimboola at 11am, Nhill 11.30 and Kaniva at midday.
Please ensure you are at the station at least 15mins befor departure.
There are refreshments available for purchase onboard the train.
You will be returned to your originating station at the end of the tour.
12:20 PM – Arrive at Serviceton Railway Station
Step off the train at this historic landmark, originally built in 1888. Serviceton Railway Station is an iconic piece of Australian railway history, marking the location of the original border between Victoria and South Australia. Discover its stunning architecture, complete with a grand cast-iron verandah and the original customs offices. Learn about its significance during the border dispute and its key role in the interstate railway system.
1:00 PM – Visit the WWII Fuel Storages at Wolseley
Travel back in time to the 1940s at the Wolseley Inland Aircraft Fuel Depot. This heritage-listed site, built during World War II, features fuel tanks, a pump house, and drum-filling platforms. The Wolseley Depot, the largest and best-preserved of its kind in South Australia, offers a fascinating glimpse into the wartime efforts to protect Australia's strategic resources.
2:00 PM – Lunch in Kaniva
Take a break and enjoy a relaxing lunch in the charming town of Kaniva. See the painted sheep art and check out the painted silo. Whether you prefer a local café or a casual stop, there’s plenty to fuel you for the next leg of your journey.
3:00 PM – Explore the Overland Museum
Discover the rich history of The Overland, one of Australia’s oldest interstate trains. Opened in 1887, this museum showcases memorabilia, photos, and even a restored 1951 sleeping carriage. Learn about the train’s role in connecting Melbourne and Adelaide, and explore artefacts that date back over a century.
4:30 PM – Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre
Take off into history at the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre, dedicated to the RAAF’s WWII legacy. View restored aircraft, including a Wirraway, Avro Anson, and Tiger Moth. Wander through exhibits showcasing the region's role in training over 10,000 RAAF personnel during the war, and don't miss the Memorial Walk that commemorates their service.
6:00 PM – Pink Lake
End your day with a visit to the mesmerizing Pink Lake. Known for its unique pink hue (which varies with rainfall), this stunning natural wonder is caused by bacteria in the water. It’s a perfect spot for a photo-op and to relax before wrapping up your tour.
7:00 PM – Arrive back at Horsham
Conclude your tour back in Horsham, reflecting on a day filled with historical insights, wartime legacies, and scenic beauty!
