History Festival - Mothers & Babies of the Destitute Asylum

About
FREESunday 11th May 3pm
Join us here at the site of the Destitute Asylum Lying-in Home where 1,678 babies were born between 1880 and 1909. Could you possibly discover you have had ancestors who were born right here in the former hospital you are visiting?
A special curator’s tour of the building on Mother’s Day has been arranged to remember the babies and their unwed, widowed and deserted expectant mothers who were housed here. Experience touching and unusual highlights of some of the poor, lonely and sometimes desperate women, and even some tragic stories of them and their children.
Tours runs for approximately 60 minutes and is not suitable for children under 12 years.
