Early years literacy - learning to read
Learning to read is one of the most important things your child will learn at school; it is also one of the most complex. At BGS, reading is taught through synthetic phonics, which is an explicit, systematic instructional approach utilising letter-sound combinations. Once students learn the reading ‘code’, they are able to sound out words, and eventually attain reading fluency.
This important seminar, presented by Zoe Picton, Literacy Co-ordinator P – 6, will help demystify this process for parents and provide practical strategies you can use at home to help develop your child as a reader.
