We are excited to present Johan de Meij's symphony for wind orchestra, inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien's epic fantasy novel, The Lord of the Rings. The program also includes a selection of music from Danny Elfman's score for the 2010 film Alice in Wonderland; John Mackey's cross-cultural Strange Humors featuring solo djembe drum with the colours of the wind band; Eric Whitacre's The Seal Lullaby, inspired by a poem by Rudyard Kipling; and Stephen Schwartz's songs from the beloved musical Wicked, set in Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz universe.
