The Second World War Memorial Preview

About
Lecture and Musical Event with Christopher Latham OAM
Following on from the highly successful Holocaust Memorial, join us for a special preview of the Second World War Memorial, a powerful commemorative concert marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War.
This is the sixth in a series of seven full concert commemorative works by Chris Latham OAM, musical artist-in-residence at the Australian War Memorial. It will bring to life the voices of Jewish Australian composers, Albert Arlen and Isador Goodman, who both served in the Australian Armed Forces and wrote wartime compositions (the El Alamein Concerto and the New Guinea Fantasy). We will also recover works by two murdered Jewish composers, Marcel Tyberg and Erwin Schulhoff and we will focus on the three new commemorative works written by our featured composer, Jewish-Australian, Elena Kats-Chernin OA.
Be among the first to experience and help shape this extraordinary work before its official premiere in Canberra on August
Christopher Latham OAM is the Australian War Memorial’s first musical artist-in-residence. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate by the University of Canberra, the order of Arts and Letters by France and the Medal of the Order of Australia for his work on music and war. All his work is made to lighten the burden of trauma, and to help those affected, to heal.
