John Button's Story

About
John Button is a man from Perth who was the victim of a significant miscarriage of justice. Button was wrongfully convicted of the manslaughter, by vehicle impact, of his girlfriend, Rosemary Anderson, in 1963. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, and released in 1968.However, the case against Button was fraught with errors from the start. Button's conviction was sustained for many years, despite growing doubts and calls for a re-examination of the case. In the years that followed, a series of legal battles and appeals would gradually reveal the truth. In 2002, after a long legal struggle, John Button was exonerated. His case became a symbol of the flaws in the Australian legal system, highlighting the dangers of wrongful convictions and the importance of safeguarding justice. Button now spearheads the Western Australian Innocence Project which aims to free the wrongfully convicted.Join us as John tells his story.
