Australian/Finnish, Finland-based musician Simon Svoboda is back to perform in Melbourne, joined on stage by dear friend and cello superstar David Moran. In the past two years, Svoboda has found inspiration to compose minimalistic music for his cello and voice. His recently released EP, ‘Kaamos’, is inspired by different elements of Finnish winter. Hear arrangements of Kaamos for two cellos & voices with Moran, alongside music by Bach, Jacques Emery and Sibelius.

“Woven Sun” is a 30-minute collection of music featuring improvising bassist Helen Svoboda, and string quartet. The work represents a long-term investigation into the nature of self and beauty, and a place where opposites exist as a whole. The term ‘woven sun’ implies a questioning of the nature of sun – something which is natural, and beautiful. ‘Weaving’ requires different strands to create a whole, and so something that is woven can also be understood in smaller parts.
