The year is 1975 when 25yr old surfer and film maker Steven Otton embarked upon making his film 'Highway One'. The story is centred around a group of surfers and their girlfriends who travel 'up the coast' via the Pacific Highway (Highway One) showing the seminal surf film 'Morning of the Earth' in regional and town theatres. A visual feast and a true capture of places and times gone by showing our beloved Avalon along with Manly and areas of the northern Rivers up to Byron Bay. The soundtrack of surfing and the lifestyle includes 'Capricorn Dancer' by Richard Clapton as well as songs from Skyhooks and local 70's band The Bilgola Bop Band. February 1, 2025 is 50 years after Steve started making this now iconic film and will be the second only world premiere of 'Highway One' at Avalon Cinema after the original world premier there in 1977! Book fast for this nostalgic cinema event. 6pm movie followed by canapes at the Surf Club by Lovat on the Beach, compliments of McGrath.

Bronze Medallion, SRC and Nippers Water Safety Award holders are required by SLSA to complete an annual Skills Maintenance course every season. ART course has 3 sessions. Candidates must attend all sessions: Wednesday 4th September 6:00pm - 9:00pm Tuesday 10th September 6:00pm - 9:00pm Wednesday 11th September (Assessment) 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Wednesday 21 August AND 22 August 6:00pm-9.30pm. Candidates must attend both sessions. Spaces limited. Priority will be given to patrolling members.

NBC parking permit available for active patrolling members who meet the following criteria - Renewed your membership - Assigned to weekend beach patrol team - Have not received a parking permit via another source. - If you live with your parents who are rate payers you ARE eligible to receive a permit DO NOT APPLY IF: - you pay Council rates (you will receive two permits with your rates notice). Council will check records.

The Bronze Medallion is an 8 week course, typically held with mid-week theory and weekend practical application. You will receive the skills and knowledge to be able to participate in Life Saving operations and join a patrol team at Avalon Beach. Upon completion, you will have gained a nationally recognised qualification (Certificate II in Public Safety – Aquatic Rescue). The prerequisite pool swim requires participants to swim 400m (16 laps of Avalon Beach pool) in 9 mins or less.
