Join us to celebrate the Mid-Autumn ‘Moon’ Festival on September 14th, featuring a bilingual orated story accompanied by the ancient guzheng music. The story will be presented in both English and Mandarin. Following the storytelling, we will offer a Chinese calligraphy/watercolour demonstration. Participants will then be given the opportunity to learn and practice this ancient art form on water colour paper and a Chinese lantern.

Paper stories - collage workshops

Paper stories encourages and inspires community members to create new stories by weaving together existing images from books and magazines. As our world becomes increasingly digital, we will celebrate analog and tactile processes through collage.
These workshops will highlight the accessibility of collage as an art modality, using paper as a recyclable material. Suitable for people of all ages, and anyone who has an interest in exploring art making through paper.
Participants will be guided through two collage techniques by Augustine, a collage artist and masters of therapeutic arts student.

Join us for a fun evening of drawing costumed performers of the renowned YUMMY cabaret company. This event is about celebrating dazzling camp aesthetics while giving you the opportunity to observe and unleash your creativity in a one of a kind cabaret setting. This isn't a traditional tutorial, but rather a joyous celebration of your own drawing style and abilities.
So, bring your favourite paper and drawing supplies and come as you are! Standard A4 paper and graphite pencils will be supplied. No wet media and suitable for all ages and abilities.
INfuse aims to connect creative people living in the west by providing a platform for networking, sharing of ideas, professional development, mutual support and inspiration.

Come and try drama for free with Wit Kids these school holidays! These classes are for kids ages 5-12 and are prefect for new students wanting to give drama a go or regular students looking to get their holiday drama fix. Kids will play drama games, improvise, make friends and have loads of fun! Wit Kids is a weekly drama program for children aged 5-12 years. Anwita Sirikonda's Bharatnatyam Arangetram

Niruththa Indian Fine Arts Presents Bharatnatyam Arangetram of Anwita Sirikonda's, Disciple and 26th Graduate of Guru Smt. Niruththasorubi Tharmakulendran. The word "Arangetram" means "ascending the stage". After several years of rigorous training under her guru and performing several dances as a group, this will be her solo dance debut – that means it's the first time a student performs a full concert by herself. It is a major event where you invite close friends and family as well as other members of the artistic community. In this performance the dancer will be accompanied by her Guru in Nattuvaangam, along with Vocal, Mridangam, Violin and Flute. The Arangetram is also when the student earns their Salangai (Ankle Bells), symbolizing that they are ready to begin performing professionally!

Brimbank Multicultural Community Choir

The Brimbank Multicultural Community Choir is directed by Veronica Gauci and supported by Brimbank City Council.
The choir celebrates cultural diversity by singing in over 20 languages and performing at community and corporate events, all over Melbourne.
This group is an all inclusive, non auditioned community choir, where all singers are welcomed and encouraged to participate. The group rehearses

Family and friends of the Homework Clubs are invited to come along to the end of year showcase performance from "Circus Homework" on Monday, 27 November. Featuring performances by program creator and Curbside Carnies founder Sophie deLightful, program facilitators and special guests, and of course, all the children who participated in "Circus Homework". "Circus Homework" kicked off at the start of 2023 with the support of Brimbank City Council, inspiring the kids of Koorie Homework Club and Edmund Rice Homework Club to be the next generation of circus star. Continuing throughout 2023 with additional support from VicHealth's Jumpstart program, we have seen these kids grow and blossom with newfound confidence, skills and excitement - and now it's your turn to see what they're been up to!

Learn how to take good quality digital images of your artwork, sculptures, or craft projects led by experienced Graphic Designer and Illustrator Elzette Bester who has been reproducing and documenting artwork for herself and her clients for over 25 years. Elzette will take you through a prerecorded introduction on what to expect from this workshop, plus some initial tips with getting ready to photograph your art.
Then at the 2 hr in person workshop, you will be taken through a more in depth process of how to photograph, document, and reproduce your work, plus how to share it online and with others. You will also learn about backdrops and lighting options and how to save and organise your images with minimal editing.
A fun and practical workshop for all ages! No experience needed, just an example of your work and your smartphone or any camera you might have.

Be Bold Festival 2023 - OBANG

Obang is a performative installation space designed for babies aged 6 to 16 months along with their care-givers and siblings, and is inspired by the traditional Korean concept of Obang. In this work, Obang refers to five primary colours and explores the spatial meaning of home. You are invited to a Korean grandmother’s home for a meal. Together you will experience her daily life, including cooking, singing, washing and story-telling. Obang is a joyful and interactive experience featuring puppetry, story and free-play in an immersive environment. Obang will be presented as a 50-minute installation performance. Following Dorothy, a Harlem schoolteacher, the story whisks her away to an Oz reminiscent of New York City. Her journey leads her to profound connections with a Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion, all while seeking guidance from the enigmatic Wiz on a quest to find her way home. Bleached is a new play by renowned Western suburbs based theatre company Wit Incorporated. “The last time it happened I floated in it. They were bleached and barren, but they released their insides anyway.” The world is in decay. Colours are fading away. The bees are buried. Countries are closing. Everyone and everything will be washed out… Bleached. In Collins’ absurd and poignant new work, Australian tourists crawl the globe, “like cockroaches”, consuming all it has to offer, before it is locked down forever; a last-ditch universal effort to fight the climate crisis. And they will blame chickens... The 60-minute piece will be followed by a 20 minute Q&A with the artistic team.

Join local Brimbank writer Jean Bachoura for an creative writing workshop where you will be challenged to develop your own unique style of experimental writing.
Jean Bachoura was an inaugural recipient of the Wheeler Centre’s scheme for writers, The Next Chapter. His work is reflective of a life lived between cultures: born in Damascus, raised in Syria, Lebanon and Australia. In 2016 he was awarded the Deborah Cass Prize for his piece ‘Night Falls’. In 2017 he wrote ‘No Man’s Land’, an account of his journey crossing the border into Syria. In 2019, his multi-platform project TRETINOIN was awarded The Lifted Brow & RMIT non/fiction Lab Prize for Experimental Non-fiction. In 2022, he released the video essay Not Financial Advice with Liminal Magazine and was awarded a Varuna Writers residency from the Griffith Review.

A Schools Performance: Rediscover one of the greatest plays of the 20th Century, Arthur Miller’s heartbreaking masterpiece Death of a Salesman. Hearth Theatre presents a theatrical event not to be missed, starring one of Australia’s finest theatre actors, Paul English as Willy Loman, “a salesman with his feet on the subway stairs, and his head in the stars.” The perfect text for those in the VCE Theatre Studies Unit 3 and Unit 4, the Pulitzer prize winning Death of a Salesman is regarded as one of the best contemporary plays ever written. This production uses the ground breaking rehearsal technique developed by English theatre director, adapter, translator and teacher Mike Alfreds, to breathe life into this classic. Written in 1948, Arthur Miller's iconic and celebrated play Death of a Salesman addresses loss of identity and a man's inability to accept change within himself and society.

Mad Flavours is a talent quest that showcases artistic and cultural talent within African-Australian demographics and aims to provide African people with resources, spaces, and a platform to show off their chosen skill. Mad Flavours Grand Finals event will be held at the Bowery Theatre in St Albans on the 13th of May 2023 from 6:30pm. The Mad Flavours team have carefully picked the most talented group of performers to compete at the Grand Final event for the ultimate prizes. Audiences will have a chance to vote for their favourite act, so make sure to bring all your family and friend to support your favourite contestant. Africa’s Got Talent/MAD Flavours is supported by the Department of Family Fairness and Housing’s FreeZA program. The FreeZA program is based on a youth participation model where young people lead the planning, development and delivery of music, cultural and recreational events in their local community.

This program aims to provide social and physical space for creative practitioners from diverse art communities to engage in this transitional cross-cultural collaboration and to allow them to consider collaborative curation in contemporary art production.

Having spent 2021 collaborating as part of the Dancehouse Emerging Choreographer’s program, Yuiko Masukawa and T.Shriraam were struck by the similarities in their dance practice.
Both have trained in highly codified practices of ballet and Bharatanatyam, however through a process of reflection both Yuiko and Shriraam sought to explore the complex realities of classism, migration, gender and body through dance making and performance.

An interpretation of the Olivier Award winning musical, Once On This Island explores the life of a peasant girl on a tropical Afro-Caribbean Island who uses the power of love to bring people of different social classes together. Like many African folktales the work incorporates performative movements and a critical moral compass within the story. Once on this Island is supported by Brimbank Council through the 2021-22 Be Bold Residency.

A hardworking Maltese fisherman is faced with a choice: repair his fishing boat or put the fish population at risk. Luzzu casts Maltese fishermen bringing realism to this story.
Cats of Malta is a documentary that celebrates Malta’s cat culture through art, folklore and unconditional love.
Blood on the Crown - In the final days of the First World War, during Malta’s revolution for independence, two British officers are tasked with quelling the riots resulting in a cover up.

Zaffé is a new immersive, work-in-progress theatre performance that explores how young people in the Arabic diaspora deal with, heal from, and move on from displacement and loss. The theme behind our project is “UNITY”. Throughout Covid-19 and the numerous lockdowns we’ve all been through, it is evident that there is no other time where we all had to come together. For example, each person playing their own part by isolating if they were a close contact or getting double vaccinated, were forms of society uniting as one to beat this virus. After a stressful year, we wanted to plan this event to be a form of celebration to end off a hectic year.

Lele in Samoan means “fly.” In 2018 WEYA made Lele Butterfly, a modern adaptation of Antigone recontextualised to the contemporary world with a focus on the Samoan Australian diaspora. In 2021 stories of young Polynesian gangs are rife in the Australian media, rap and violence and death being plastered across our nation's consciousness. There felt like no better time to revisit our adaption and breathe new life into it for our Polynesian, BIPOC and immigrant communities alike.

Little Tadpoles Looking for Mama is a reimagining of a long forgotten Chinese children’s story. In this magical performance, we see the weaving together of an installation of whimsical Chinese animations of tadpoles in search of their mother with the retelling of Dan’s personal story of childhood loss.
This performance incorporates the Brimbank community’s imagery and stories developed in consultation at the Be Bold Festival.

Come and join The Australian Ballet Education team at The Bowery Theatre for a week-long school holiday workshop program. Explore the world of ballet and co-create your own dance work to perform at the end of the week.
The workshops include contemporary warm-ups, dance exercises and choreographic games. Elements such as costume design, music and storytelling through dance will be discussed.

SingWest is a community choir of over 30 voices based in Melbourne’s west. They sing acapella and the repertoire is primarily based on the unique arrangements of well-known hit songs from the last five decades – something for everyone!
‘Happy’ will include a cross-section of their repertoire including the full ensemble, and will also featuring some smaller ensembles and solo voices.

Based on true events this is the story of 4 young indigenous Yorta Yorta women in the 1960’s who sang together as a group. They won a competition that saw them being sent to Vietnam to entertain the troops.
They basically went to the front line.
It is also the story of how they adapt and change in their own lives all set to great original songs and some of the biggest hits of the 60’s.
