Celebrate the festive season with a delightful evening of music in the beautiful surrounds of the College's Quadrangle. This years program features a variety of young and talented soloists, and showcases the college's symphonic orchestra and various choirs. Please bring your own food, drink, low chairs and picnic blankets. Featured artists include Mark Coughlan (maestro), Paul Wright (concertmaster), Raymond Yong (pianist), Phoebe Tait (soprano), Ciaran McChord (tenor), and Audrey Jarvis (violin) Door open at 5:30pm Please note that there is strictly no reserve seating prior to doors opening. Items used to reserve seating prior to doors opening will be removed and stored in a safe place at the Archway entrance. Audrey Jarvis Recital (CANCELLED)

Featured recently in the College's Meditations Concert as a member St George's College String Quartet, 15 year old Audrey Jarvis returns for a solo recital. Under the tutelage of Paul Wright, Audrey has performed with orchestras all over the world including Italy, Amsterdam and Australia. Audrey is excited to be featuring in the College’s upcoming Dining Hall Recital with the St George's College String Quartet, as well as being a featured soloist at our Christmas in the Quad Concert. Accompanied by pianist Jonathan Bradley, Audrey will present an exciting and diverse program of works by Schubert, Wieniawski, Pisendel, and Szymanowski.

A Cappella Affair: A Jukebox Musical Comedy

Between Friday 11 October 2024 and Saturday 12 October 2024
The charismatic young voices of the St George's A Cappella groups, Newby Blues and Mockingbirds face off against the St George's College Consort in this entertaining and original musical. This collaborative and somewhat hilarious project is based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and showcases a range of live performances of some of the greatest hits through the ages. Please note that doors open at 6:30pm for both concerts and that there will be an interval of 20 minutes in between acts. There is strictly no parking on college grounds.

Meditations: Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri

Between Friday 20 September 2024 and Sunday 22 September 2024
Paul Wright, one of Australia's finest violinists, is joined by the St George's College String Quartet, Chapel Choir, and Consort to present Buxtehude's masterpiece, Membra Jesu Nostri. Buxtehude had considerable influence on composers such as J S Bach and G F Handel. Being a standout among Buxtehude's compositional oeuvre, this work of seven cantatas reflects on aspects of Christ's suffering on the cross. The music is characterised by its sense of warmth, purity, balance, and profound expressiveness. Please note that doors at 6:30pm on Friday 20 September and 3:30pm on Sunday 22 September. There is strictly no parking on college grounds.

International Piano Recital: Victor Sangiorgio

London-based Australian pianist Victor Sangiorgio performs at St George's College for the first time. Victor has performed solo and chamber music throughout the world in venues including Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Albert Hall, and the Sydney Opera House. Victor will present a diverse program of solo piano works ranging from Scarlatti and Haydn to Liszt and Rachmaninoff. Doors open 3:30PM. One of Western Australia's finest young pianists, Alexander Chua is presenting an intimate solo piano recital at St George's College this Saturday. Alexander performed in our sold-out Chopin Showcase concert last year and has also appeared as soloist at Christmas in the Quad. Alexander was recently selected to participate in the national Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition. He will present an eclectic and exciting program of Bach, Mozart, Chopin and Ravel.

Romantic Rhapsody

Beethoven and Liszt revolutionised the world of piano playing with their unprecedented levels of virtuosity, dramatic flair and emotional depth. This program includes some of the most enduring piano masterpieces such as Beethoven’s Appassionata and Liszt’s Spanish Rhapsody. Tenebrae: Lamentations by Candlelight

Friday 29 March 2024
A special candlelit concert of musical reflections and text readings on the themes of Good Friday. Latin for Darkness, Tenebrae services at Easter are characterised by the gradual extinguishing of candles to the point of total darkness. This concert offers an artistic exploration of the dark and mystifying themes embedded in the Tenebrae service. The voices of the St George's College Consort will perform selections of Gesualdo's Tenebrae Responsoria along with other pieces by Weelkes and Purcell. Doors open 6 PM. From the Beginning

Sunday 10 March 2024
A special recital of virtuosic music for violin and theorbo from the early 17th century. Netherlands-based UWA/WAAPA graduate Ciara Sudlow is completing a masters in early music at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam whilst working as a violinist and violist with professional period ensembles around Europe and Australia. Theorbist Matthew Jones lived and worked as a professional musician in London and Berlin for 20 years before returning to Perth in 2018 and is currently working on his PhD at WAAPA. The duo performed regularly between 2020 and 2022 and are excited join forces again to present a unique program showcasing early 17th century music for violin and theorbo. This repertoire is a strong source of passion for both musicians that offer a clearer perspective into this often-overlooked repertoire. Doors open 2:45 PM. Opera in the Quad

The stunning Quadrangle at St George's College is the unique venue for opera star Paul O'Neill and pianist Mark Coughlan to present Opera in the Quad - an evening of the best loved moments from the magical world of opera. Paul and Mark will be joined by three brilliant young singers — soprano Jessica Blunt, mezzo-soprano Ruth Burke, and baritone James Pinneri to create a special evening of musical treasures. After ten years in The King's Singers, countertenor Tim Wayne-Wright examines and explains what it truly means to be an ensemble singer. We are delighted to announce that the St George’s College Semester Two Concert Series will be launched at a special concert in the College Hackett Dining Hall on Sunday 31 July at 7pm. Ashlyn Tymms (mezzo soprano) and Paul Wright (violin) will join pianists Raymond Yong and Mark Coughlan in a soulful program of much-loved classics including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Bizet, and Ravel. At this concert, we will have great pleasure in welcoming David Woods as the St George's College Music Coordinator and Director of Choral Music.
