Toilet training a young child may seem like a natural next step in your child’s development. And for some children, it occurs quite organically, with little assistance from their parent. For others, however, it is a bumpier road, and can result in both the parent and the toddler becoming frustrated and disillusioned by the whole process. The process can be made easier, however, when we understand what is involved and do some pre planning before toilet training commences. It is estimated that over 50% of children aged 2-5 will become picky about what they will and won’t eat. Some children reject foods they used to love, and some children phase out whole food groups. It isn’t uncommon for toddlers to only want bread or pasta, and perhaps just one or two fruits. And yet they often have no difficulty eating hot chips or biscuits! There is good reason for these changes that are occurring, and in this talk we explore why it’s happening, and how you can respond. However research shows that about 10% of children will go on to develop a more significant anxiety disorder which may lead to them missing out on important experiences such as making friends, learning new tasks and trying new activities. In this talk we help parents to recognize signs of anxiety, understand what may be going on for their child, and get ideas and strategies for parenting a child with anxiety.
