Volunteer for Shinju Matsuri 2025

Be a part of the Shinju Matsuri 2025! Whether you're a local or just visiting, you're either in the thick of the festivities or helping behind the scenes to make the magic happen! As a volunteer, you'll not only have a blast but also help keep the Shinju Matsuri tradition alive and kicking for years to come.
We know volunteers come from all walks of life and have varying levels of skills, experiences and involvement. Some can only do one or two shifts through the Festival period; others will dedicate themselves to most events. It's up to you! Volunteer roles include simple hospitality tasks such as scanning tickets, assisting attendees, clearing tables; crowd control and marshalling; bump in and out of events. Some of you might be helping backstage or selling raffle tickets and taking on other exciting jobs.
The volunteer manager will work with you and tailor your shifts to your schedule and experience. We want you to enjoy being at the heart of the festival and gain lasting memories!

Annually, the anticipation builds as Broome gears up for the excitement and festivities of the Shinju Matsuri Float Parade. Whether you actively participate or eagerly spectate, if you're in Broome, you're part of the excitement! A cornerstone of the Shinju Matsuri calendar, the Float Parade showcases the vibrant diversity of the Broome community.
The theme for 2025 is "The colourful, pearling capital of Broome" Floats will be evaluated based on their unique interpretations of this theme, making it a delightful and engaging experience for both participants and onlookers alike.

Enjoy entertainment by local & touring musicians & performers throughout the evening, before finishing the night with a dance in the sand under the Kimberley sky.
Please note: For a preferred seating arrangement with fellow guests, we recommend booking your tickets together. In the event that you are unable to secure tickets together, please reach out to event organisers at least two weeks before the event date via hello@shinjumatsuri.com.au to convey your seating preferences. We are now inviting applications from food vendors who would like to participate in the festival across a range of events.
Shinju Matsuri (festival of the pearl) is Broome's annual community, arts & cultural festival celebrating the town's unique cultural diversity, vibrant history and community spirit. The festival is based around the four diverse cultures which have come together as part of the pearling industry in Broome over the last century. Each year, Shinju Matsuri welcomes locals and visitors to a program of both curated events and community offerings across the festival calendar.

Experience the spectacular Floating Lantern Matsuri in style, enjoying uninterrupted sunset views from our new and reformatted Floating Lantern Festival Hub.
This is a ticketed event for the whole family and includes access to the Floating Lantern Festival Hub, one lantern kit per person, a drink on arrival with a cash bar for the duration of the event & a special menu of Japanese canapes served throughout the evening, with kid-friendly options available. Child's tickets for under 17 years old. Children under 4 will not require a ticket.

The Shinju Matsuri Opening Ball is a modern take on the historic Shinju Ball, in our amazing outdoor venue – the Shinju Matsuri Festival Hub.
A 1920’s Gatsby themed ball playing jazz music inspired by your favourite pop songs.
Keep the festival opening ceremony celebrations going in style by a star-lit Roebuck Bay, with live music, dinner & drinks. Included in their ticket, all guests will receive a welcome drink on arrival, along with a substantial supper served all throughout the evening.
Get ready to dance the night away on our outdoor dance floor with some of Broome’s favourite musicians, keeping the tunes flowing all night long.

As part of our 2022 hub program, we have two Lantern Decorating workshops happening at the Shinju Matsuri Festival Hub at Town Beach so you can decorate your lantern ahead of time, leaving you more time to appreciate the iconic experience of our Floating Lantern Matsuri.
